Where are you from? Park City, Utah. Great town, but I miss the ocean. The beach is too long a walk, so I fly there. I’ve racked up a lot of miles.
What kind of photography do you do? Commercial work and private commissions – formal portraits, action/sports, travel, photo journalism. I really love just honestly shooting people doing what they do. Bode Miller and Ted Ligety going 80 down the Birds of Prey course in the World Cup. Youth Ski League little rippers who can’t quite find their way around the gates. I’ve followed Peter Sagan through the Tour de France and my neighbor learning to ride a 2-wheeler. It’s all good. I love to find that sweet light, that perfect expression, and frame it up.
What’s your favorite part of your job? I’m the main shooter for Chasing ATLAS, a kick-ass travel company providing custom experiences around the globe. I get to photograph cool places, teach workshops, and even go along as a photo-journalist for those awesome people who travel with a private photographer.
Why photography? My Dad gave me a camera and I fell in love with it. And stayed in love with it. Through college back east ~ Go Blue Devils! Through grad school in Denver. None of those hours in lecture halls or writing papers taught me much about taking pictures, so I bought lots of film and spent days and weeks shooting. Then I found a mentor, took a few seminars, and kept working. I got good. I opened shop.
What else? Somewhere along the way I gave birth to three awesome boys and acquired two great step-daughters & their quirky dad. I learned to fly a jet. And, I’m in love with Charlie, my dog. It’s always an adventure.
